<--- God of Smilies.

The only question that came into my head, is what kind of mother who spends all that time shoving a baby out of her, forgets about that baby only a few months later? *Sigh* *Smacks dumb people.*

How completely, utterly disgusting. I'm all for George Carlin's idea of locking these A-holes up in a fenced, guarded area in the middle of nowhere and letting them tear each other apart.

You know, we're all a bit guilty of addiction to things like this. Hell, just last night I knew I had to get up early, but I kept saying "One more round" and ended up playing Battlefield 2 'till 3 in the morning. Humans are easily sucumed to the good stuff, but leaving your own kid alone? That's just stupidity. Worst parents of the year award goes to:The level 30 orc and mage. Good job >.<

I am just .... speechless, I have always been growing in disgust of mankind (politicians and rich business men mainly) but this is just nuts, when you think games are more important than your family then you need to stop and evaluate your life.

Was waiting for Guru's conservatism to shine through.

Must say, I was most surprised when the people on TGH reacted negatively to it more so than here. Most unusual.

God is not a figment. Most people find that out to late though. (no i'm not trying to start an argument) All i'm saying is it is a horrible sin that these people have done. If they let their lives go to the point where all they can think about is playing this and beating that. When they become too consumed to even remember about their children. That is when things get really scary.

yes of course they need to repay society but that wont save them in the end

Religion always starts an argument. If you are truly not trying to start an argument, leave all dogmas out of the equation.

I am going to have to agree with this. I also have to agree with other people that parents should take some sort of "parenting competency test" to make sure they are not total morons like these WoW addicts in question

Because it was not WoW that was the cause of death, but the idiotic parent. Calling me conservative is always funny though

This makes me really sad. I mean it's funny to call people nerds that play like 3 or 4 hours a day because you know they aren't really harming anyone or anything (besides their social life), but damn this takes the cake. This surpasses being a nerd and flies smack into being an addict. Sure, it is really crazy to think of a computer game as being truly "addictive", but if this isn't proof, what is?

These things are not addiction, they are choice. You have the power to stop doing what it is you're doing. Addiction being used in this terminology is merely a societal scapegoat.

Agreed, Mandar, let us keep all such dogmas out of this discussion, as plenty of people can become self initiated zealots on either side of the equation.

To be honest, I'm not surprised at all to see something like this.

In Korea, PC Cafes are a hub of the social life, much like our clubs or raves. If you have spare time after school, asking a friend to go to the local cafe for a quick game of Starcraft is perfectly normal, just like we would ask a friend to come over to play XBox or something. Unlike in the US, computers are cool for both guys and girls. If you see some of the top GW guilds in Korea, you'll see that all of them are coed. Many of the newer generation of Koreans meet each other playing games in these cafes, and many continue on these activities as their relationship grows.

Even seen an anime when you are introduced to a character with... OMG a house! It's true in Korea as well.
Most Koreans live in small apartments in which a computer [or in this case, two] would take up too much space, plus wouldn't allow you to go out with your friends. Therefore, PC Cafes are the main conduit of internet access for many Koreans and remain that way for a great deal of their lives.

I understand how this counts for neglect, but again, with the amount of influence PC gaming has in Korea society, I didn't blink once when I read the article.

I'll have two orders of Dealth Penalty and a side order of Human Castration please!

-----

I do get carried away with these games.. but if I hear the smallest noise in the kitchen or ANYWHERE in the house, I'm immediately rushing there to see if one of my CATS has been hurt. I'm up down up down from the comp all day to make sure my house etc is safe and sorted before I settle into games like this.

Fair enough people get taken with games, and have terrible memories but there are solutions for those who wish to know them. I believe the people in those cases just didn't.
You can make sure your child is being cared for so you can play for a few hours. If your kid's in the house, double check it works and use a baby moniter or even better have the kid THERE next to you.
Set yourself a timer. I started doing this today when I got carried away looking for fuzzy dice for my car on eBay and I burnt my supernoodles

Take responsability for your actions. Having sex should be painfull so n-one ever does it :P

NO sex should stay just the way it is just add some pain.
But i do believe people should have to take a common sense test before they are aloud to spawn.
If you fail you get spayed or neutered
